After fertilization, remarkable changes take place within the flower. The ovary develops into a fruit, while the ovules become seeds. Students also study fruits, their types, and their importance. Fruits are classified as dry fruits and fleshy fruits. The chapter explains the three layers of the fruit wall (pericarp)—epicarp, mesocarp, and endocarp—along with their functions and examples such as mango, tomato, pea, and groundnut.

Another important concept covered is the structure of a seed. Students learn about the cotyledons, embryo, radicle, and plumule, as well as the differences between monocot and dicot seeds using simple examples and labelled diagrams.

The chapter concludes with seed germination, the process by which a seed grows into a new plant. It explains the conditions necessary for germination, including moisture, warmth, and oxygen, and describes the stages of germination in different seeds. These concepts help students understand how a tiny seed develops into a healthy plant under favourable conditions.
